White-throated Kingfishers (Halcyon smyrnensis), also known as white-breasted kingfishers, perched on a tree in New Delhi. The birds are engaged in self-care behavior, calmly preening their feathers while resting on the branch. Their upright posture and alert gaze reflect their watchful nature, even during moments of rest. Easily recognized by their bright blue wings, chestnut-brown body, and striking white throat and breast, these kingfishers are a common sight in Delhi’s parks, gardens, and near water bodies. A widespread species, they are found across Asia, ranging from Turkey to the Philippines, and are well adapted to both natural and urban environments.
