The town lies within a steep Himalayan valley surrounded by densely forested slopes and low-hanging clouds. Winding roads and clustered hillside buildings indicate its role as a transit hub for Lachen and Lachung. The scene also reflects conditions following the Sikkim Glacial Lake Outburst Flood 2023, which caused major damage to the dam infrastructure.
