Like in the age old notion of fishing, this woman sits with a bamboo pole and a fishing line next to a pond, with an umbrella over her head to protect from the summer sun, at a pond near Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. She is clearly not getting any bites this afternoon and will have to head home with empty hands... Fishing here is clearly not very promising, nor a very hectic activity! What bait is she using, you reckon? Another woman steps into the water, hoping to scoop up a fish or two in her little bowl. Again, not a very promising prospect, it would appear. Just look at that level of plastic and waste pollution in that water body, along with zero oxygen in the water and a high level of kai or algae. One of the boys slips and falls into the murky grimy waters... A poor pass for rural India,
