The city of Varanasi or Banaras is also known as the 'Spiritual Capital of India'. This ancient city stands on the banks of the Ganga, the holy river. A ride along the Ganga on a country boat gives a glimpse of the Ghats or the destination for most of the religious rituals, the holy dips in the Holy River practised by Hindu devotees. With over 50 ghats, some of these are solely dedicated for cremation and to perform the funeral rites of the deceased devotees.
