While I was strolling through the village of Ghandruk I came across a small group of Nepalese people working on the steps of the village. On asking, I was informed that they weed out the steps and clean them of any unwanted shrubs or plants to keep the village clean. This also reduces the risk of slipping on these jaggedy stairs while it's raining as the waters run down the stairs already making it difficult to walk in the rain.
