A full-bodied hide along with hair of a Tibetan yak (Bos grunniens) is spread on the floor of a home. Yaks are an important part of everyday life in Tibet. The milk and meat are consumed in the Himalayan region for its taste and nutrition.

This momma Yak wants to avoid giving her Yak milk to her young one, for some reason! She dodges letting her near her teats and runs along the meadow. The other Yak pack sits coralled within the fenced in portion, some of them tagged.

Shelkar Dzong (dzong means "fort). The remains of the fort lie above the monastery. The fort lies at the top of the mountain which is at least 1000m above the rest of the town.
