A magnificent tree peony hybrid associated with Paeonia rockii, often called Rock’s tree peony, flourishes gracefully in the cool climate of the Himalayan foothills. Known for its exceptionally large, silk-like petals and dramatic dark maroon blotches at the base of each petal, this woody shrub produces one of the most striking floral displays in temperate mountain gardens. Unlike herbaceous peonies, this species develops a woody framework that survives winter, allowing it to grow into a substantial ornamental shrub over time. The blooms—often white, blush pink, or pale lavender—can reach impressive sizes and emit a light, pleasant fragrance during late spring.
