A group of devotees performing Hari Kirtan at night in a village in Odisha, with men and boys in saffron-orange shirts and dhotis circling a decorated altar. The altar is covered with marigold garlands and green leaves, with framed images of deities, brass pots, offerings and coconuts arranged at its base. Participants clap, dance, and play brass cymbals and other hand instruments while villagers watch from the edges of the gathering. Blue and violet lighting illuminates the altar and performers, while a young boy joins the circle and a painted performer appears in the background. Hari Kirtan is a devotional tradition of singing and chanting the names of Hari, associated with Vishnu and Krishna, and is widely practiced across Odisha and eastern India.
