Bougainvilleas are popular ornamental plants found in tropical moist regions and native to South American countries like Brazil, Peru and Argentina. However, bougainvilleas will thrive in almost any soil as long as it is well-drained and fertile. In India, it grows in tropical and sub tropical forests such as Sultanpur National park, Kanha National Park and Eravikulam National Park. It is also found in the North Eastern State of India. Bougainvilleas belong to the family Nyctaginaceae. They are a group of tropical and subtropical flowering shrubs and climbing vines. Bougainvilleas are often used as porch climbers and hedges.
