Banana is a popular fruit in India. Here's a banana plantation. During the seventh century AD its cultivation spread to Egypt and Africa. At present banana is being cultivated throughout the warm tropical regions of the world. Banana can grow from the poorest to the richest type of soil with varying success. The soil should be tested before banana cultivation. Tissue culture, a process of crop propagation in a test tube under controlled and hygienic conditions, has helped West Bengal make banana cultivation an attractive proposition for farmers. The method improves yield and quality and has revolutionised the horticultural industry.
