We read a story about a girl called Arachne, who would weave beautifully. Weaving is the process of making cloth from thread. Two sets of yarn or thread are woven together to make cloth. In our story, we also learnt that Arachne used a loom to weave her cloth. Cloth is usually woven on a loom. A loom is a device that holds one of the sets of threads in place while the other is woven through them. Here, you can see a handloom weaver weaving a Banarasi saree. He is using an old wooden loom. Banarasi sarees are among the finest sarees in India. These sarees are woven from the finest silk from the city of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. In India's northeast state of Arunachal, a woman from the community of Mishing weavers is weaving on her loom. She controls the movement of the loom using her toes.
