Indians and chiefly Dilli wallahs and Dilli walis sitting inside Delhi Metro trains in the year of inauguration circa 2002: Rare semi-archival footage. Inception of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation dates back to 1995 with its first run in 2002. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) started work on the metro's first section – the Red line – in 1998. It opened in 2002. Further sections of the system started running trains in 2006 and 2011. The Government of India under Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and the Government of Delhi set up the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on 3 May 1995, with Elattuvalapil Sreedharan its managing director.
