Named after Kumbh the pitcher which held the Amrit, a tradition of celebrating the symbolic myth at the four sacred cities began centuries ago. The elements of the myth have been incorporated in the celebration. It is celebrated every 12 years because it took Garuda that long to reach the heavens. The constellations are the same as they were when the Gods got back the Amrit. The location is on the banks of a sacred River whose waters are considered to have the same powers as the nectar of immortality and a dip in the holy waters is essential. This is no ordinary bath, it is an elaborate ritual necessary ingredients have to be bought and along with it comes some mandatory Hagee.
