Sujit Shakya speaks about Nepal tourism. He says, "Nepali Tourism began in about 1960's and we saw very high-end tourist coming to Nepal in other mystical Shangri-La part of it and it was so interesting that even Air India when it started its flight from New York, they started to put picture of Nepal in its brochures coming in from New York so after that we have the backpackers that are coming in in the 70's the hippies and then in the early 90's we saw a spur to tourism but unfortunately 10 years of insurgency between 1996 to 2006 coupled with a lot of other factors saw the decline be it the Indian Airlines hijack in 1999 which brought in a lot of negative publicity and then you had the Royal massacre in 2001 that brought Nepal to a negative publicity.
