Marking the busiest entrance to the old medina, this 20m-tall clock tower is one of the most recognisable landmarks in downtown Casablanca. The current tower is a 1993 reproduction of the original 1911 structure, which fell into disrepair and was dismantled around 1950. The crooked lanes, occasional tree-shaded square and well-frequented local cafes contribute to a generally pleasant atmosphere and make it a popular route for those walking between downtown Casablanca and the Hassan II Mosque.
