Much festivity, celebration, fanfare, pomp and religious fervour, as well as prayers and formalities accompany the carriage of the idol for immersion in a water body at the end of the Durga Puja celebration period. A holy fire is carried in a metal dish, as a symbolic gesture. Ullulation by women from Orissa / Odisha and Bengal mark the occasion.
