Kanyakumari lies at the southernmost tip of mainland India (the southernmost tip of India as a whole being Indira Gandhi Point in Andaman and Nicobar Islands). The nearest major city is Nagercoil, the administrative headquarters of Kanyakumari District, 22 km away.
