Coconut husk or copra by the truckload is an unfortunate corollary to the Mahashivratri celebrations at the ancient Khajuraho temples in Madhya Pradesh. People come and crack coconuts and pray after lighting joss sticks or dhoop battis or agarbatti. Why can our religious practices not be a little more considerate for our human and natural environments?
