Rectangular ponds for farming marine shrimps near agricultural fields in the coastal areas of Odisha. The workers at the ponds are seen spraying and manually putting planktons and feeds for the shrimps in their post larval stage. Notice one of the men inside the pond disbursing the feed. Paddlewheel aerators are used in these ponds to increase the salinity of the shrimps or prawns in their post larval stage. Aerators are also used underwater to prevent the pond sediments from coming up. These aquacultures are in abundance in South Asia to supplement the increase in consumer demand. Large scale pond cultures as well as small scale ones like these in the coastal areas.
