Indian economy is basically agrarian and hence export of food and agricultural products assume greater significance in our export eforts. Sikkim is the large exporter of cardamom and in lieu of this large cardamom is grown as an important spice crop in the state of Sikkim and West Bengal India is the main producer and exporter of large cardamom. The other major producers are Nepal and Bhutan. The bulk of the entire production is consumed in India. Pakistan is the single largest market. There is preference for scientifically cured quality cardamom with good colour. The major markets in India are Amristar, Calcutta, Delhi, Guwahati and Kanpur.
