Taking measured steps as they tread forward in a fantastically coordinated fashion, all the while playing their band instruments in formation, and coordinating eye, ear and mouth, must make this a very complicated task of competence and coordination. Playing before the defense chiefs, President and Prime of Minister of India, in an old tradition that dates back to the British era, albeit in a now Indianized fashion, the Beating of the Retreat ceremony is a goose-bumpy occasion that brings out the best of the Indian martial tradition, defense music, military bands and Indian culture. The pace picks up after 4 minutes and the body-worn drum sets add to the percussive rhythm even as the boots marching add another element to the rhythm. What fab coordination!
