Connaught Place also known as CP (officially Rajiv Chowk) is one of the largest financial, commercial and business hub of Delhi. Named after the Duke of Connaught, a member of the British royal family. Designed by Robert Tor Russell in collaboration with WH Nicholls, the construction work began in 1929 and completed in 1933. It was renamed as the Rajiv Chowk after the late Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The architecture followed a well planned and well structured market in the shape of a horseshoe. The reason behind such a circular structure was that it would be beneficial for both the shopkeepers and the shoppers.
