Among the oldest existing structures in Delhi, the Feroz Shah Kotla Fort was built when Sultan Feroz Shah Tughlaq decided to shift the capital from Tughlakabad to Firozabad because of a water shortage in that region. The fort was included in the fortified city of Firozabad. The entrance of the fort has a massive iron gate bearing Feroz Shah Tughlaq's name and the fort walls are as high as 15 metres. The fort houses an Ashokan pillar that was originally erected over 2000 years ago and was moved there by Feroz Shah Tughlaq in the 14th century. Jami Masjid, located within the fort, is one of the most ancient and largest surviving mosques and monuments, and is still in use. The fort also houses the only circular Baoli in Delhi.
