After months of suspense, Maharashtra government announced that the Enron Dabhol Power Project being scraped in a dramatic development which may have wide-ranging implications for future foreign investment in the country. The Chief Minister of Maharashtra Mr. Manohar Joshi announced in the Maharashtra assembly that the second phase in the 2.9 billion dollar power project was being scraped he also confirmed that the Maharashtra state electricity board had been asked to suspend work on the first part of the six hundred and ninety-five-megawatt project immediately. The reasons given for scrapping the project are that the power project was not in the best interest of the people of Maharashtra. The lack of transparency.
