Procession of Torma taken to Mechang to burn evil spirits: Torgya Festival, in Tawang

Torma is an effigy that is believed to contain all evil spirits. Towards the end of the first day of the Torgya festival, the mechang , which is an assembly of dry bamboo leaves in the form of a temple is lit by the head lama of Tawang monastery and the Torma is consumed into the flames of the mechang, which signifies destruction of evil spirits. A procession starting from the prayer hall of the monastery, consisting of lamas and devotees carries the Torma to the mechang.
