In the northeast side of town is Mawana sugar works. Its name comes from the word "Muhana" means Gateway. It is supposed to be the Muhana of Hastinapur kingdom. Hastinapur is a Mahabharat period town situated nearby.[citation needed] Mawana name descendant from Mavi[Gurjar]. Jagdish Prakash Kaushik, was the first person to be honored with the title of Krishi Pandit by the Government of India for his outstanding contribution to the wheat produce.
