Workers assorting waste papers for recycling at paper yard in Mawana, Uttar Pradesh. Mawana is a town in Meerut district in the Uttar Pradesh state of India. In the northeast side of town is Mawana sugar works. Its name comes from the word "Muhana" means Gateway. It is supposed to be the Muhana of Hastinapur kingdom. Hastinapur is a Mahabharat period town situated nearby.[citation needed] Mawana name descendant from Mavi[Gurjar]. Jagdish Prakash Kaushik, was the first person to be honored with the title of Krishi Pandit by the Government of India for his outstanding contribution to the wheat produce.
