Kids in Imphal having fun climbing the banana pole which is erected near a free space in the streets during the Yaoshang/ Hoil festival in the state. Banana stems and the climbers are applied with oil to make the already slippery banana stem more difficult to climb. A certain amount of money is usually tied at the top of the stem before erecting it. The first person to reach the top and take the money is the winner. One of the major festivals of India, Holi, is celebrated with enthusiasm and gaiety on the full moon day in the month of Phalgun. The Northeastern state of Manipur also celebrates the festival for five days but calls it a different name; Yaoshang.
