The visit of the union Home minister Mr. SP Chavan and the Finance minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to Kashmir immediately after the burning down of holy shrine in Charar-e-sharif. Earlier the prime minister P. V. Narasimha Rao had called an old party meet in New Delhi to discuss a new course of action and evolve a national consensus to meet the crisis. Mr Narsimha Rao gave an assurance for the shrine as well as the town of Charar-e-sharif would be rebuild. And he sanctioned a sum of 150 million rupees towards this. While all political parties agreed on the need to restore normal scene in the state and conceded that it was a national issue which transcend that consideration of party politics.
