From 1997: Nearly 30 years ago when a mother and father tied the knot in a quiet little ceremony it made news but not headlines. But this week when the daughter preferred her marriage to be a simple but low-key affair, the celebrity-hungry media catapulted it as one of the events of 1997. Even before Priyanka Gandhi's marriage to a Delhi based industrialist Robert Vadra became a media event and controversies erupted. On February 18th, the day of the wedding the paparazzi did not want to miss any footage they can wrap. Some gathered outside the bridegroom's house at the Capitals New Friends Colony and others waited for the baraat to arrive at Janpath, the house of the Gandhis. The star guests of course for a big draw for the biggest photo opportunity came when the newly weds Sonia and Rahul
