Shyam Benegal says " Well when I was growing up two important things happened in Hyderabad. One was the feudal state the Nizam state of Hyderabad came to an end and secondly there was a huge big peasant movement in the Telangana districts of Andhra Pradesh. Now both these things you couldn't escape being impacted upon by these rather momentous events. The breakdown of the feudal system which I saw at first hand and secondly Telangana movement. I was much to young to be directly involved in it but certainly a lot of people who are involved in it. I came and who became my friends particularly some of the younger members who are in Jail and who were released during the general amnesty and some of them were my classmates.
