Lac bangles are made of lac, which is a scarlet resinous secretion from lac producing insects. Before the lac is moulded into bangles, the raw material is first coated with the desired colours for the bangles. The lac is held over a heat source to make it malleable, making it easy to mould into a thin line without breaking. It is then made thinner with the help of a stone roller and broken off from the source into a circular shape of a bangle. On the other side, the artisan is covering a metal bangle with the lac bangle moulds, pressing the metal bangle into the lac mould to give it the proper shape with optimal coverage from lac to hide the metal.
