Strawberries growing wild in Sikkim's Himalayan region! Just short of the Singba Rhododendron Sanctuary and en route Yumthang (at an altitude of around 9000+ feet) you will find entire meadows covered in flowering or fruiting strawberry plants, depending on the season... Unlike the larger garden cultivated strawberries, these wild ones are not so large but they're really sweet and full of natural vitamins and flavour! According to Wikipedia: "Fragaria (play /frəˈɡɛəriə/) is a genus of flowering plants in the rose family, Rosaceae, commonly known as strawberries for their edible fruits. Although it is commonly thought that strawberries get their name from straw being used as a mulch in cultivating the plants, the etymology of the word is uncertain.
