The astringent neem tree has long been used in India for brushing teeth and the leaves have been used for saving books from insects, by placing dry neem leaves within a book's pages. Even Macaques (see our video of the same) use the twigs to clean their teeth, knowing of its germicidal properties. Here you can see the delicate flowers of a Neem tree on the branches, in the New Delhi summer of an early May day. The Neem tree is a tropical evergreen tree native to India and is also found in other southeast countries. In India, neem is known as “the village pharmacy” because of its healing versatility, and it has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for more than 4,000 years due to its medicinal properties.
