Jama Masjid's Shahi Imam Abdullah Bukhari favours communal harmony. He thinks if there is no communal harmony it is unfortunate for the country. According to him before the partion of India and Pakistan, Hindu and Muslim communities shared good and peaceful relations, however he feels unfortunate for current situation of Hindu and Muslim communities. Abdullah Bukhari wants Hindus and Muslims to live peacefully, however if they won't then it would be a diffcult situation for the whole country. Syed Abdullah Bukhari was the 12th Shahi Imam of the Jama Masjid, Delhi. India's Prime minister Morarji Desai offered to him the position of Vice President of India after he won the 1977 elections defeating Indira Gandhi. "He was one of the strong voices that opposed the Emergency in 1975. He proteste
