Hemis Monastery along with Hemis guesthouse and Hemis museum. The gathering of monks and Ladakhi women here signifies the Naropa festival time. The heavily adorned women are wearing 'Ladakhi Perak' on their head, that is their traditional dress. Typically worn by the old aristocracy in the Himalayan Ladakh region of Asia. It is composed of a strap of leather studded with semi-precious stones, such as lapis lazuli and turquoise. Hemis is an idyllic village in Ladakh, in Northern India . The town is just over 40 km southeast of the town of Leh. Hemis is home to the Hemis Gompa a pre- 11th century monastery that was re-established in 1672.
