Entire Western ghats mountain tops cut off with roads and plundered hillsides. Not a shrub or green leaf in sight, such a distant cry from the verdant hills beyond. How heavily licensed and approved is this mining operation that seems to be destroying our Ghats forests and ruining prime bird and insect habitat. Is iron ore mining so extractively destructive? Can there be no better way? Is all this legal and licensed? Is the Indian environmental lobby aware of such happenings?
