Harvesting peony seed pods: After the flowers fade, the plant forms plump green seed pods, like the ones in this video. Leave them on the plant until late summer or early autumn, when they turn brown and begin to split open, revealing dark, glossy seeds. Collect the pods at that stage and sow the seeds fresh in autumn. Peonies grown from seed are slow and can take several years to flower. Itoh peonies at Jabbarkhet Botanical Arboretum in the Himalayan foothills of Uttarakhand after the flowering season. Green peony seed pods remain on the plants as the flowers fade, while clouds drift through the surrounding mountain valleys. Workers loosen the soil by hand with a traditional hoe while preparing beds for planting, and ripening apples are visible on trees in the arboretum. Itoh peonies are
