The Mayapuri junyard in west Delhi is an agglomeration of multiple small and large recycling units that specialize in breaking down old cars into usable components of scrap steel, iron, rubber, plastic and more. See piles of used rubber tyres sitting atop buildings as we fly over the Mayapuri recycling markets of Delhi. There was a recent incident in which nuclear waste that was high in radiation was dumped at the yard and could have led to calamitous circumstances but was traced and suitably disposed of. This is a disorganized sector and the workers can be subject to huge risks to life and health.
