These irises have bloomed at the Himalayan Estate of Wilderness Films India for the past 150+ years since they were first brought to the Himalaya on a British ship! Blue flowers are rare to come by in nature. Roses don't come in blue, nor do day lilies. However, there is no shortage of the color blue in irises: they come in a variety of hues of blue. Iris is a genus of 260--300 species of flowering plants with showy flowers. It takes its name from the Greek word for a rainbow, referring to the wide variety of flower colors found among the many species. As well as being the scientific name, iris is also very widely used as a common name for all Iris species, though some plants called thus belong to other closely related genera.
