The Hong Kong Orchid Tree (Bauhinia × blakeana) is a hybrid ornamental tree famous for its large, fragrant, orchid-like flowers that bloom in rich shades of rose-pink to purplish red. The tree is widely planted in parks, avenues, botanical gardens, and orchards for its spectacular floral display. Unlike many other Bauhinia species, this hybrid is mostly sterile, meaning it rarely produces seeds. It is believed to have originated in Hong Kong in the late 19th century and has since become one of the most recognizable ornamental flowering trees in tropical and subtropical regions. Its butterfly-shaped leaves and vibrant blossoms make it a favorite for urban landscaping and garden decoration, attracting bees, butterflies, and other pollinators while adding vivid color to natural surroundings.
