Jhapan is one of the most unique festivals celebrated in West Bengal. The festival is dedicated to Goddess Mansha, Mansha Devi is the daughter of Lord Shiva, who is also considered to be the Goddess of Snakes. People of Bishnupur in Bankura district of West Bengal celebrate this day in a very big way. The snake charmers called Jhampanias get most of the attention. They demonstrate tricks and feats with poisonous snakes like cobras, vipers, pythons and more. In fact, Jhapan literally means a stage erected to exhibit tricks with snakes.
