Famous Bollywood actress Waheeda Rehman on being asked that what was the base of "Kagaz Ke Phool"? She replies,"In my opinion Guru Dutt was inspired by Judy Garland's "A Star is Born". Though I have never seen the film but he had taken the treatment of the concept and also how Bombay film industry runs, how junior artistes are being treated, how success is given respect and love, and if that person fails his little bit of failure changes him or the others as person he have used the treatment of the film keeping this concept in mind. On being asked that how much authenticity the film had in it about Bombay she replies," In my opinion it was a lot authentic."
