Mamata Shankar speaks about director Mrinal Sen. She says " I used to call him Mrinal Da. That was the first time I saw him and he also saw me for the first time and he asked me that are you interested in films? At that time I never really thought of acting in films, so I said I wouldn't mind but my parents you know they wanted me to finish my school first. And it was in 1975 I was free in college, one Mirnal Da rang me up, he wanted to talk to my brother and he asked me that what are you doing nowadays so I said I am free. I finished my school. If you have anything in mind I can free to act. That time he was planning a film called Mrigayaa. He said you just come over to my place and we had a talk . We had a talk and he red out the script to me and that was a role of Santhali girl." Mamata
