In 2023, the Delhi Jal Board implemented multiple measures to control toxic foam on the Yamuna River in New Delhi, especially during Chhath Puja. Boats were deployed to break and drag foam patches using cloth barriers, helping move the froth toward the banks for removal. Workers also sprayed diluted, food-grade defoaming agents directly onto the foam to reduce its spread. Additionally, water release from the Okhla Barrage was managed at lower pressure to minimise turbulence and foam formation. These combined efforts aimed to reduce visible pollution during peak festival activity.
