Perhaps the largest and biggest festival of Bihar, Chhat Puja is observed primarily in Bihar, Jharkhand, Nepal and Eastern Uttar Pradesh. The festival spans over four days , starting on the sixth days after Diwali and is observed to show gratitude to the sun. Women of the cow belt of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar take a religious dip into the Jumna nadi of Delhi, on the ghats built for Chhat Puje observance where they pray to the sun god, at the end of the monsoon season.
