India Today's founder Aroon Purie is awarded the GK Memorial award for outstanding contribution in journalism. In the presence of media and GK Reddy's nephew, Dr Manmohan Singh, the then Prime Minister of India PV Narasimha Rao presents the award to Aroon Purie. The Prime Minister and Dr Manmohan Singh spoke at the event along with GK Reddy's nephew Subbirama Reddy who took the initiative of this award. They expressed the power of media in the smooth governance of the country. After the award, Aroon Purie in his speech dedicates his award to everyone who has worked with him.
