The last few hundred meters down to the waters' edge, the young Urial ewes lop and canter, jump and spring forward, excited for their drink of water in this high altitude desert! As the Urial descend down a ravine, jumping across smaller precipices and chasms, they descend with great glee to the waters' edge to drink from the Zanskar river, and then proceed to eat berries of Leh Berry or Seabuckthorn (Hippophae tibetica) for their high Vitamen C content, avoiding the thorns with scrupulous caution. A rare view from the high trans Himalaya! Shapo or Ladakh Urial, a species of rare sheep, a wild ungulate, grazing along the banks of the Zanskar river in Ladakh. This hoofed animal is found along the Shyok and Indus river valleys, and in neighbouring Gilgit - Baltistan. The mating season starts
