Clitoria ternatea is a creeper plant that can grow well without much care. In India, it is also known as Shankhpushpi, and it is used as a medicinal plant. In some countries, it is grown as an ornamental plant. Its leaves are elliptical and obtuse, and the fruits are pods resembling thin peas. The flowers are a vivid, deep-blue colour, though there are white flowers, as well. The plants belong to the family Fabaceae. This herb is also known as butterfly pea, blue pea, Cordofan pea, and Asian pigeon wings. Shankhpushpi is an indigenous plant used in Ayurveda, an ancient system of Indian medicine.
