The Jaipur Elephant Festival takes place on Holi eve each year. What better way to commence Holi celebrations! The festival gets underway with a traditional procession of decorated elephants though the streets of Jaipur towards the Chaugan Stadium. There, the elephants proudly parade up and down, like catwalk models, to an appreciative crowd. Elephant beauty contests, folk dances, and tug-of-war between elephants, locals and foreigners are all regular events. Holi is a religious spring festival celebrated by Hindus, as a festival of colours. It is one of the major festivals of India, celebrated with enthusiasm and gaiety on the full moon day in the month of Phalgun which is the month of March as per the Gregorian calendar.
