The Beating of the Retreat is an age-old tradition in the Indian Army which commemorates the retreat of soldiers at the battlefield after sunset. This tradition signifies the retreat of soldiers, sheathing of arms and lowering of flags. In India, this is celebrated every year on the 29th of January as part of the 4-day Republic Day Celebrations. The event is a ceremony of pride for the Indian army and the Indians with a mixture of colours and music. Army music bands playing pipes, drums, saxophones in front of the dignitaries of India. Hundreds are in attendance at Vijay Chowk to witness this display of skill and talent of the Indian armed forces musical bands.
